Elizabeth Holmes Can’t Be the American Dream
There has long been a stereotype of Silicon Valley venture capitalists as those who chase narratives rather than numbers. A so-called startup, Theranos at its peak was valued at more than $9 billion and, as of 2018, had raised over $1 billion, according to PitchBook, despite giving inaccurate blood-test results to some patients who have said they were falsely told they had HIV or cancer. Ms. Holmes was found not guilty of four charges involving patients.
